    • Plot: Clare (McAdams) has been in love with Henry (Bana) her entire life. She believes they are destined to be together, even though she never knows when they will be separated. Henry is a time traveler – cursed with a rare genetic anomaly that causes him to live his life on a shifting timeline, skipping back and forth through his lifespan with no control. Despite the fact that Henry’s travels force them apart with no warning, Clare desperately tries to build a life with her one true love.

I’d heard brief mentions about the upcoming film The Time Traveler’s Wife months ago, but never really knew what it was. Since it was a summer movie (it hits theaters August 14), I was surprised there wasn’t more hoopla earlier on about it.

Recently, however, more info has become available about this film. Turns out it’s based on a bestselling novel, and is more romantic and girl-friendly than the title makes it sound.

With a premise that starts out mentioning that main character Henry has a weird disorder that causes him to time travel at a moment’s notice, without his control, it sounds pretty guy friendly, right? But, it’s not really about his time-shifting disease – it’s actually about how his wife struggles with his appearances and disappearances. At least this apparent chick flick tries to pull the guy crowd in a bit with the sci-fi factor.

But will guys still want to see it when they find out what it’s really about? After seeing the trailer, I’m going to go with not really. Sure, the time-shift thing is interesting, but since the teary romanticized version seems to be oozing out of the trailer, it’s likely this one is going to be another girly tearjerker that guys will probably regret having to sit through.

At least it’s got good timing. With G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra (2009) hitting theaters about the same time, guys can hit that action-packed film while the girls get together for a good cry with The Time Traveler’s Wife.

Of course, if G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra (2009) turns out to be awful, guys may be forced to see this one in retribution.

Guys, let’s hope for our sakes that either G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra (2009) is good or that The Time Traveler’s Wife isn’t the romantic tearjerker it looks to be.
