Aliens in the Attic (2009)

The other day, while visiting the local movie theater to continue with our Summer At The Movies ’09, we saw a poster for an upcoming film we hadn’t heard anything about, namely Aliens In The Attic.

After seeing the trailer, I’m not so surprised I hadn’t heard anything about this film before. Knee-high alien invaders and Earth’s defense falls to a bunch of annoying (and as far as I can tell from the preview, poorly acted) teens? Great. Our world is doomed.

Of course, this one is going to draw a lot of comparisons to Small Soldiers since it seems to owe a lot to that film. And while that was pretty darn cheesy, it had it’s moments where it actually was – and I’m almost shamed to admit this – fun (I seem to remember a scene involving a bicycle and a soldier, for example). But do we really need another film that takes so much from Small Soldiers? Nope.

Still, kids will probably enjoy this, thanks to the slapstick comedy that apparently happens a lot when the mind control devices fall into the hands of the heroes. But the parents who are forced to go with them might not be so entertained.

I hope I’m wrong, and this turns out to be a lot better-looking than it’s preview, but, at the moment, I’m going to have to give Aliens In The Attic a pass in theaters.
