Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)

When I first heard about a new film getting some limited release this summer named Blood: The Last Vampire, I thought they were re-releasing a short anime film I’d seen a few years back. While that was interesting, I didn’t really think much more about it – after all, I already own the film.

As it turns out, the film getting a limited release this summer isn’t the anime film I remember – instead, it’s a live-action remake! That certainly gave me cause to pause!

The original anime film was bloody, uber-violent and just plain excellent. Could this be redone in live-action? And if the film is just in limited release, does that mean it’s only got a budget for the cheesiest of special effects?

From what the trailer shows, thankfully, the special effects seem to be top-notch. And, while they may have changed things up for the live-action version, the trailer does look like it could be interesting.

I’m glad I double-checked on the info about Blood: The Last Vampire. While I don’t have enough confidence in this new live-action version to see it in theaters, I’ll definitely check it out once it hits DVD – and re-watch Blood: The Last Vampire (2000) while I wait.
