Amelia (2009)

When it comes to America’s long-standing passion for flight, there are few names from history that are more recognizable than Amelia Earhart. Disappearing during an attempt to fly around the world, her end is shrouded in mystery. Will new film Amelia shed some light on what happened to her?

Probably not. Most likely, the film will end with her husband and friends continuing to search for her amidst super-imposed images of her smiling and waving in slow motion, or something of that sort.

Still, when Hilary Swank gets into a juicy role, she tends to garner Oscar® nominations, and it’s a good chance she’s going to get another nod for playing the famous flight pioneer.

From the trailer, this film actually looks interesting, if a bit leaning more towards the sappy side of things. And with a cast that includes not only Swank but Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor, one can guess the acting should be top-notch.

While I don’t usually enjoy the biography dramas as much (Ali (2001) and Beautiful Mind (2001) being the exceptions), Amelia seems to have everything it needs to make it worth seeing – but I’ll probably wait to check it out on DVD, anyway.
