Usually when I see trailers for Sandra Bullock films – like this summer’s Proposal (2009) – even though they aren’t really something I want to see, I think they have funny moments and that there’s a certain charm to Bullock when she’s in her romantic comedy mode.
But, when I saw the trailer for her upcoming film All About Steve (which was pushed back already from March to September, based on the trailer), I didn’t get any of that. This one is taking the awkward moment that romantic comedies tend to start out with and upping the ante a hundredfold. Basically, the whole premise is Bullock stalks this guy (Bradley Cooper) around the US, trying to convince him she’s the one for him.
This is supposed to be funny? Sounds more like creepy to me. If this was a Fatal Attraction remake, I could see it a lot easier than trying to get laughs out of this. True, most guys wouldn’t mind getting stalked by Sandra Bullock (even though she looks downright ugly as a blond), but trying to turn that into a comedy? I don’t see it at all.
Heather will probably still want to see this one, but I have no interest whatsoever. If you really need a fix of rom-com Bullock, check out Proposal (2009) and give this one a pass. It sounds just awful.
