Cop Out (2010)

So, Kevin Smith, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are teaming up together? Yeah, I know – never saw that one coming, did you? Me neither. But apparently they are, in the upcoming Smith-directed flick Cop Out.

Apart from the off-beat title, what’s going to get viewers to check this one out? First, people will want to see what Kevin Smith is doing now that the Jay & Silent Bob series has ended – and are going to hope against hope Jay & Silent Bob will show up in this new film. Then there’s Bruce Willis. He’s good as an action guy – can he play the grizzled veteran to Tracy Morgan’s goofy cop? Probably.

But then there’s Tracy Morgan. While the rest of the cast sounds decent (Seann William Scott! Michelle Trachtenberg! Old Kevin Smith pal Jason Lee!), will Tracy Morgan be able to transition his new found success on TV’s “30 Rock” and his voice casting in G-Force (2009) into a movie like this? Chances are, just like Chris Tucker in the similar sounding odd-buddy-cop flick Rush Hour (1998) and it’s sequels, Tracy Morgan’s probably going to get annoying.

Hopefully, Bruce Willis and director Kevin Smith will be able to make that annoyance factor work towards the film’s appeal, rather than against it.

Guess we’ll find out in 2010.
