Well, I’d heard a little bit about the upcoming film Fantastic Mr. Fox, but I definitely was not prepared for what hit me with the trailer. With rather cheesy figurines (see the paint glisten on their close-ups!) being put through their stop-motion paces, this film makes “Mr. Bill” look downright tech savvy.
Are they serious with this? If I had seen this as a skit on “Saturday Night Live” or “Mad TV”, I would have laughed at the foolishness of it, along with the rest of the audience. But this film is actually coming to theaters? Yikes! Who spent money making this?
And look at all the voice actors! George Clooney. Owen Wilson. Meryl Streep. Bill Murray. Why did they sign up for this malarky?
I can only hope the trailer doesn’t do the film justice, and Fantastic Mr. Fox delivers such a solid storyline and entertaining characters that viewers forget how bad the animatronics are…but there is no way I’m spending the big bucks to find out in theaters. This one’s already delegated to a slow DVD weekend for us.
