Since Friday the 13th was always my least favorite of the major horror series, hearing that a remake is coming in 2009 doesn’t exactly make my day.

Going with what the fans of the series liked the best, this new remake will focus on Jason Voorhees as the killer (llike the sequels did) rather than his mother. With so little plot already in these films, chances are this change will destroy most of the last vestiges of plot and turn this remake into a campy hack-n-slash gore fest.

Since that is what most of the other films in the series have been anyway, fans should still like it.

Do we really need a remake of Friday the 13th? No…but after the phenomenal job that Rob Zombie with Halloween (2007) and director Marcus Nispel’s proving success with remakes (he directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), also a remake), MTV and New Line are hoping that this new film will garner them some extra bucks.

Since villain Jason Voorhees (like Michael Myers and Leatherface) aren’t really known for their speaking skills, reincarnating them time and time again isn’t that difficult…and as long as there are teenyboppers, there will always be an audience for them.

Now, let’s see them try to re-create Freddy Krueger (of A Nightmare on Elm Street) without Robert Englund in the role – that would be a whole different story.
