Dreamworks Animation, the clever designers of animated hits Over The Hedge (2006), Kung Fu Panda (2008) and Shrek (2001) are trying for another hit in 2010 with the animated How To Train Your Dragon.
Based on the first book in a series by author Cressida Cowell, this one could be yet another hit for Dreamworks Animation, as the series seems to have a good-sized fanbase.
The only problem – since the series is aimed at younger children (8-12), will Dreamworks Animation be able to adapt the series to a family-friendly movie, or will it only appeal to children or adults?
Without seeing much more than a brief image from the teaser trailer now making the rounds on YouTube, I have no idea if they’ll be able to take this young children’s story and make it a hit for the whole family. Still, with the streak they’ve been on recently, I have high hopes for this one.
Will How To Train Your Dragon be the animated hit of Spring 2010, or will it get lost amidst the crowd? Fans of the series are hoping this one is just the beginning – and based on the premise, I’m thinking this one could be great family fun if done right.
UPDATE: The new trailer is now available, and if Dreamworks can keep the quirky fun going for the entire film, they should have another kid-friendly hit on their hands.
