I guess Heroes isn’t the phenom it once was, is it? Now it seems the stars are branching out into their own films – maybe planning ahead to keep their star in the limelight after the show runs it’s course?
This summer we’ve already seen what Zachary Qunto can do when he trades in his extra abilities for Spock ears (Star Trek (2009)), can Hayden Panettiere shed her pom-poms and make I Love You Beth Cooper a hit as well?
This one is a lot more iffy than Star Trek (2009). With the name and latest wunderkid J. J. Abrams helming, that one already had a loyal fanbase. But, without the built-in fanbase, will I Love You Beth Cooper be able to bridge the generation gap, or is this strictly a teen comedy?
The answer to both questions is probably no. Still, with a decently funny preview going for it, I Love You Beth Cooper may be able to pick up the overflow from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) – and maybe word of mouth may help this littler picture that could succeed this summer.
Still, teen comedies are too iffy to see in theaters for us, so we’ll wait for the DVD to see if the cheerleader can do the saving this time around.
