Legion (2010)

Recently, I saw the restricted “red-band” trailer for next year’s Legion, and I have to say I’m kind of excited about this one.

Let’s start with the cast. Paul Bettany, who’s been the high point of such varied films as A Knight’s Tale and Inkheart (2009), among others, is finally getting a leading role as the archangel Michael, and I can’t wait to see if he’s going to be able to kick butt, take names, and still manage to shine.

The supporting cast includes such varied folk as the recently-everywhere Dennis Quaid (now in G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra (2009), then to be seen in Pandorum (2009) before the end of ‘09), Charles S. Dutton, ex-Fast and the Furious actors’ Tyrese Gibson (2 Fast 2 Furious) and Lucas Black (Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)).

But a big highpoint for me out of all this supporting cast is Kate Walsh. Yup, the chick from Private Practice (who I think does a better job in those Cadillac commercials than in any TV show she’s been in). Her. And no it’s not because of her “acting” talent – actually, it’s because it looks like she’s going to get some payback for how bad Private Practice is (at least for guys – it’s one of Heather’s favorite shows. Go figure.)

Aside from the positive cast vibes (for various reasons), this one looks a bit reminiscent of Stephen King’s Maximum Overdrive (attack on strangers in a diner) mixed with The Prophecy. That could be good – or it could be very bad..

Here’s hoping this one’s gonna rock.
