Plot: Trying to regain some sense of normalcy in their lives after the devastating loss of their unborn child, Kate (Farmiga) and John (Sarsgaard) decide to adopt another child. At the orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther (Fuhrman). Almost as sson as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be.

After seeing the trailer for the upcoming film Orphan, I just gotta wonder: is it just me, or does this look and sound remarkably like The Omen? Sure, a little girl has replaced Damien (and now she’s adopted), but won’t this be one of those “seen one devil child, seen ‘em all” scenarios?

At least it’s got some good points going for it. CCH Pounder is usually entertaining, and devil kids – dime a dozen though they may be – are still creepy as all get out.

But will that be enough to entice moviegoers into shelling out their hard-earned dough for a horror flick in July, when they have bigger-budget choices available?

Well, since it’s opening against G-Force (2009) and The Ugly Truth (2009), it may have a shot. While the kids will flock to G-Force (2009) and the gals will probably drag a date or two to The Ugly Truth (2009), there isn’t really a guy-enticing flick out that week. True, some of us are animation nuts (like me), but there may still be enough overflow for Orphan to do decent business. And that’s not even mentioning all those teen dates that just love horror flicks.

As for me, unless word of mouth on this one is really good, I think I’ll hold out for the DVD.
