Ah finally, a decent movie is coming to theaters from director Michael Mann: Public Enemies.
Christian Bale and Johnny Depp go head-to-head in the film, and they’ve got an equally impressive cast – including the likes of Giovanni Ribisi and Leelee Sobieski among them – backing them up in the film.
Thankfully, this one sounds like it’s hearkening back to Mann’s success with the ensemble heist film Heat – something Mann fans will be happy about after his failed attempt at the more personable Collateral (2004).
With Christian Bale still riding the high from Dark Knight (2008) and the always engaging Johnny Depp still reminding everyone of Jack Sparrow from Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl (2003) and it’s sequels, this film sounds incredibly promising.
With Mann hopefully back at his best and this crazy-good cast he’s assembled, the success of this film seems guaranteed.
The only worry: with Bale being promoted in the iffy new McG film Terminator Salvation (2009), will moviegoers be seeing too much Bale in their future and give this one a miss, or will Bale find himself with 2 hits this summer?
Personally, if this is truly reminiscent of Mann’s Heat glory days, and the cast manages to perform even partially up to their previous standards, this one is already a must-see for me – and I haven’t even seen a trailer yet!
