Our Thoughts:
On March 13, 2009, WWE fans are going to witness the match they never thought they’d see: The Rock vs. John Cena, as Race To Witch Mountain goes head-to-head with 12 Rounds (2009).
With a star-studded cast adding to “new and improved” kid-friendly Dwayne Johnson, and all the weight of the Walt Disney company behind it, Race To Witch Mountain is sure to garner the larger audience.
Aside from Dwayne, the cast includes such notable names as AnnaSophia Robb (Reaping (2007)), Carla Gugino (Spy Kids), Cheech Marin (Desperado), Tom Everett Scott (An American Werewolf in Paris), Ciaran Hinds (Munich (2005)), along with newcomer Alexander Ludwig (Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007)).
While it’s iffy if Alexander Ludwig will be able to contribute much to the film, AnnaSophia Robb and the rest of the cast should more than make up for it, while John Cena is so far the sole easily recognizable name of 12 Rounds (2009).
This seems like poor planning on the part of WWE Films. Why risk splitting your audience between established movie star (and ex-WWE wrestler) The Rock and WWE’s latest leading man, John Cena?
Hopefully, 12 Rounds (2009) will move from it’s current release slot – otherwise, Dwayne Johnson and Race to Witch Mountain will probably knock John Cena’s 12 Rounds (2009) out before the fight even has a chance to begin.
