After the larger-than-expected crowd of female viewers – usually mostly forgotten by Hollywood – that turned Sex And The City (2008) into a hit, it’s no surprise Warner Bros. would capitalize on that success as quickly as possible and churn out a sequel, with the unoriginal title Sex and the City 2.
Sure, females will once again make this a night on the town with their gal pals when it hits theaters in May, but is there anything there this time around for guys? Unsurprisingly, that’s still no. With names like Miley Cyrus, Liza Minelli and Penelope Cruz generating the most buzz around this new film for their “surprise” cameos, it’s sounding more and more like this one’s going to be another “girls’ night out” film that guys will want to avoid like the plague – or, like the first film and the series. After all, if the biggest news about this sequel is they nabbed a couple of has-beens and an overexposed teeny bopper, what does that say about the rest of the film?
True, maybe I’m being a bit harsh on the film, and I’m sure Heather is going to love it as much as the first film and the series. Good for her – I hope she enjoys her girls’ night out. As for me, I’ll be sure to miss this one completely, just as I did the first (and the series, after only one dull and plodding hour of my time, or as they like to call it, an “episode”).
Ladies, get your martinis ready for another night on the town. Guys, see them off with gusto, relieved they aren’t dragging you along.
