Summer Movies ‘06

Ever since I can remember, summer has been the time where each week brought a new high profile movie or two vying for the buying public’s attention. The way things are shaping up, this summer looks to be no exception.

Films coming out in May

2 sequels, a remake, and a movie based on the highest-selling novel of recent times coming out in May? Sounds like a good start to summer!

June

Another Pixar film destined to become a classic and the movie return of the Man of Steel? Not bad for June.

July

I feel bad for Scanner Darkly (2006). Whose brilliant idea was it to put this one up against Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)? The reuniting of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and hottie Keira Knightley are going beat Scanner Darkly (2006) to a pulp opening weekend, leaving Scanner Darkly (2006) hoping for some major sales once it hits DVD.

As for the big-screen rehash of hit 80’s show “Miami Vice”? Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx look to be an interesting on-screen duo, but this one could go flop real fast if they don’t click.

And now, for August

That’s it. Sure, Kevin Smith is great, but not everyone has forgotten Jersey Girl, so is that going to be enough to keep August hot in the theaters? Probably not.

And there it is, the summer wrap-up. Check back after the summer to check out what I actually got around to seeing, or visit the Summer At The Movies ‘06 page this summer to read the reviews as they come along.
