All he wants to do is serve his time and go home. But the Warden (Cromwell), a big football fan himself, has other ideas. He wants to pit his prison guards football team against the inmates in a pre-season warm-up game -and he thinks that Crewe is the one to put together the prisoners' team. If Crewe's team of misfits wins, he'll upset the Warden - and in this prison, that's one thing you don't want to do. If his team loses, the inmates will probably kill him.
