Synopsis:

A bachelor (McConaughey) is haunted by spirits of girlfriends past, present and future at his brother’s wedding, reawakening his feelings for his first love (Garner).

Our Thoughts:

Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner team up for what looks to be the romantic comedy of the summer, The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past – and they aren’t alone. Joining them are an ecletic cast, including Lacey Chabert, Breckin Meyer, Christina Milan, Robert Forster and Michael Douglas.

With this all-star cast, this one seems like a shoo-in for must-see, right? Well, I’m not convinced. Re-imagining Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol is a good idea, but does this film stretch the boundaries a bit too far? Not only are they removing the Christmastime theme of the film, they’re using the story not as a moral for sharing the Christmas spirit, but as a Cupid enhancer for a romantic comedy? It sounds a little iffy.

At best, this may be a wonderful new take on the tale that adults will fall in love with. More likely, however, despite the all-star cast, this is probably going to be just another man-hating chick flick that women will adore and guys won’t touch with a ten-foot pole.

While it’s nice to see Jennifer Garner jump back into acting, at the moment I think I’m going to shy away from this one in theaters, unless Heather convinces me otherwise.
