After appearing in front of the camera in films like True Lies and Enemy of the State, actor Grant Heslov has now gone behind the scenes. After helping write the script for Good Night and Good Luck, he’s gone on to sit in the director’s chair for the upcoming comedy The Men Who Stare At Goats.
Apparently, the absurd title is just the beginning of the laughs in this comedy. Based on a real-life story “you will hardly believe is true”, it’s about a reporter who stumbles across a Special Forces guy by the name of Lyn Cassady, who spills the beans about his former assignment with the U.S. Army’s paranormal division. Maybe Overture Films is right – who would believe that? But it sounds like a rather quirky setup for a film, to say the least.
And, it’s quite easy imagining the actors in their roles. Ewan playing the intrepid reporter stunned by the revelation of the decade; George Clooney strutting his self-importance as the blabbering SF guy – how can this not be good?
Clooney’s shown he can do comedy before (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) and Ewan usually is an actor one can rely on to turn in a good performance, so this one – despite it’s odd title – sounds like it’s going to be worth seeing.
But maybe we’ll wait for the trailer before deciding if we’re going to see this one in theaters, or wait to watch it in the comfort of our home.
