The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)

After the horrendous disappointment of Twilight (2008) in so many ways AND the not-so-thrilling 2nd book of the series it’s based on, The Twilight Saga: New Moon is incredibly low on my list of movies to see.

And the trailer does nothing to get me any more excited. Apparently, the wolves in the book aren’t as big as they are described, because – at least the wolf in the trailer – is no bigger than an ordinary wolf – if even that big. Rather than looking ferocious and menacing (although the audio mixer at least makes it SOUND ferocious), this wolf kind of reminds me of a dog my grandparents owned. Not menacing at all, in other words.

After reading the entire series, I’m not too worried that they may end up destroying New Moon as bad as they did Twilight (2008), since the only book I actually enjoyed even a little was Breaking Dawn. Since they have three tries to get it right before that one, I’m hoping they’ll stumble their way to finally making a decent film – but so far, I’m not holding my breath.

Of course, since this movie is primarily aimed at the Nickelodeon crowd (those who liked “Tiger Beat” when I was growing up), the special effects and storyline don’t really matter, as long as they think the male lead is “hot” (High School Musical would never have gotten 2 sequels without Zac Efron in the lead) – and judging by the screaming gaggle of gals that follow Robert Pattinson everywhere he goes, I’m guessing he’ll be able to keep the box office receipts strong for this series through at least the next 3 movies.

As for me, I’ll wait and maybe see this one on DVD…eventually.
