Tooth Fairy (2010)

Ever since I first heard that “The Rock”…err…Dwayne Johnson..was going to be starring in a film titled The Tooth Fairy, I’ve been worried. The Rock in a tutu? Ugh…what an image!

Now that a synopsis has been released, it sounds at least a little bit better. He plays a hard-hitting hockey player who has to take on the job of being the tooth fairy for a week. Hopefully that means he’s going to be showing up to kids’ houses in his hockey uniform instead of the tutu.

If that’s the case, this could be a pretty funny movie, if they show the reactions kids – and their parents -have when a strange man shows up in their kid’s bedroom wearing his hockey jersey. But, I’m afraid it’s going to be the tutu deal, instead.

Since The Rock has changed back to being Dwayne Johnson, he’s found a niche of sorts for himself in kid-friendly movies, rather than the action flicks wrestling fans want to see him in. In an interview at one point, he said something to the effect of he wasn’t making it as a movie star, but his kid films are doing great.

Personally, I just think it’s because he wasn’t given some really good scripts when he was in the action genre. Scorpion King (2002) wasn’t bad, but The Rundown? Not really a great script there.

Until he finally makes that Spy Hunter film that’s been in the works for eons, however, I guess we’re stuck with Dwayne showing up in kid-friendly films like this one. True, Race to Witch Mountain (2009) wasn’t all bad, but I draw the line at tutus. Sorry, Rock.

PS…It looks like if you can get over the tutu thing, he’s got some decent talent backing him up for The Tooth Fairy, with Ashley Judd, Billy Crystal and Julie Andrews all well-known members of the cast.
