Tron Legacy (2010)

Wow, talk about a blast from the past! When I saw Tron Legacy was hitting theaters in 2010, I knew the name rung a bell – something about kind of cheesy graphics and cool lightcycles.

Okay, I admit, Tron was great fun back in the day, but nowadays it’s more a laugh riot, considering how far CGI and other assorted effects have gotten. Still, it’s classic cheese by this point, and apparently a sequel isn’t out of the question. But does a film like that really want – or need – a sequel? Probably not.

Still, after watching the trailer, I can feel the nostalgia coming back (kind of the way I was hoping Indy’s return to the big screen in Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull (2008) would make me feel). But is nostalgia enough to make us want to see Tron Legacy? Sure, the graphics are better, but this one may be a bit too old-fashioned for today’s moviegoing crowd.

Even though it doesn’t hit theaters until sometime in 2010 (I’m thinking March, but that’s just a hunch), at least we’ve got the Comic-Con® trailer to tide us over for the moment – and it gives us lots of time to wonder if Disney is just relying on an iffy Tron fanbase to sell this new chapter, or if there’s going to be something in there to attract newcomers to the series as well.
