Why We Watch:

A few months ago, I had heard that NBC was going to try and do another “Knight Rider” TV show, and I wasn’t that impressed. While the original “Knight Rider”, starring David Hasselhoff, was one of my favorite TV shows as a kid, I’ve since managed to catch a rerun or two – and the series has not aged well at all. Aside from the episodes involving KITT’s rival KARR, most of the shows are laughably cheesy at this point, and not nearly as exciting to watch as they were when I was younger (same goes for “The A-Team”, another old favorite of mine).

Still, the kid in me still fondly remembers the “Knight Rider” of old, so I had jumped at seeing any new incarnations of the show on TV. Unfortunately, the last reincarnation, the made-for-TV-movie “Knight Rider 2000″ dashed most any hope I had at seeng something good out of Michael Knight & Co. so many years later.

Still, I recorded the latest version when it came out as a “2-hour Event” a few months ago, and eventually sat down to watch it – and was shocked. Rather than trying to revive the rather aged Knight and his ancient looking trans am, the show got a major update, and incorporated in some fun new technology (nano-technology, to be precise) – and was loads of fun to watch.

After the “event”, there were rumors circulating that a new show was being planned, and I was suddenly very interested. Well, those rumors have been confirmed, and the new show begins tonight with the episode “A Knight In Shining Armor”.

Will this new show be able to finally do justice to KITT’s legacy, or will it be just another wannabe trying to milk viewer’s memories of the old show? With a good TV movie under their belt already, this one’s already looking better than any of the past reincarnations – let’s just hope the show can keep it going.

We’re definitely going to be there to find out.
