Back when “Law & Order” hit the air, it was refreshingly new and different – but it got old quickly. Then, when it helped bring about a rush on courtroom dramas, it got even older. After all, there is only so many courtroom settings one can watch before they all start blending together.
Then, Heather and I started catching reruns of a spin-off, “Law & Order: SVU” – and were hooked almost immediately. Thanks to the large amount of reruns airing per day, our DVR quickly filled with episodes of the show.
The more we watch “Law & Order: SVU”, the more hooked we became, with thanks going as much to the camraderie of the cast as with the storylines.
While the cases are a bit more disquieting – since they concern sex crimes – “Law & Order: SVU” really sold us by taking a different approach to case-solving than “Law & Order”. Rather than trapping the audience in a stuffy courtroom for the second half of the show, the characters are out tracking down leads right up until the last possible moment – just like the popular “C.S.I.” does now.
With the show already past it’s 10th season and the characters growing on us more and more with each passing episode, we know we’re probably setting ourselves up for the moment the show finally ends – but until then, we’re going to be with Det. Stabler and Det. Benson and the rest of the squad every step of the way.
