Welcome to the new CRITIQAL!
As you may have noticed, the Mind’s Chew Toy looks just a bit different. After weeks of working diligently behind the scenes, we are proud to unveil the brand new look and name of the site. Welcome to the new Critiqal!
So Why The Change?
Finding just the right name is always a struggle (as any parent would be able to tell you). After switching from PezXPress to the Mind’s Chew Toy, we were happy we had gotten away from using PEZ in the name, and thought the Mind’s Chew Toy would be better suited for our purposes.
As the months went by, however, we noticed we were getting a lot of visitors looking for dog chew toys and puzzles – neither of which are what the site is actually about. As we realized more and more that the name wasn’t fitting with the site, we tried to come up with new names. Finally, we decided on Critiqal, as the main focus of the site has become movie reviews.
Other than the name change, what else is different?
As you might have noticed, we decided to switch up the site theme once again, this time basing it on the popular Sandbox theme, changing the primary color to red instead of blue along the way.
Also, we’ve tried to narrow the focus of the site just a bit, and will no longer be recapping the various WWE programs we used to (for the latest up-to-date info on the recaps of those shows, wwe.com and lordsofpain.net are good places to visit).
We’ve also shifted the PEZ from the category list to their own page, keeping them much more centralized and self-contained.
The latest updates are still here, although now always located in the sidebar, rather than the main section of the front page. The latest updated video – which used to be on the front page right at the top – is now located in the movies section. Too often, this video was an old video (since we are constantly updating old posts), and wasn’t relevant with the more current topics. Now, any video seen on the front page is associated with the latest article.
Why now?
Actually, the timing could have been a bit better. With WordPress 2.7 expected out later this month, there is a good possibility we’ll have to jump right back into working on the code on the site. But, the longer we worked on the new site design, the more pleased we became with it, and just couldn’t hold back the unveiling until after the release of WP 2.7.
Are there more tips and tricks coming?
Thanks to some major revisions (especially moving the PEZ), we’ve found out some great new tips & tricks, which we will be passing on to you over the course of the next few months, so make sure to be on the lookout for those.
Wrapping up…
There’s our quick intro to the new Critiqal. It’s not radically different from the Mind’s Chew Toy you remember – with the exception of the WWE recaps, in fact, it’s pretty much the same as you’re used to. As we are constantly working to improve the site, this is probably not the last revision you’ll see, but we’re pretty happy with what we’ve accomplished at the moment.
What do you think?
For you returning visitors, what do you think of the changes we’ve made? Is the site easier to navigate, more pleasing on the eye, more confusing? What would you like to see in the future? We’re always looking for ways to improve the site, so your feedback would be extremely helpful.
Thanks, and enjoy Critiqal!
