Jack Black tries his hand again at comedy, this time under the direction of Harold Ramis, in Year One, heading to theaters this summer.
While everyone remembers Harold Ramis as the geeky Egon from Ghostbusters, he’s actually had a few hits under his belt behind the cameras. Since he directed such comedy classics as Caddyshack and Vacation, he can be forgiven for his later mistakes in directing (Bedazzled, Multiplicity and Analyze That among them). But, with no really funny comedies coming from Ramis the director since Groundhog Day, has he lost his comedic feel, or has he just not hit on the right actor?
Since the film is basically a comedic romp through historical events by a couple of caveman (which sounds like an update to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)), this could easily be hilarious (ala History Of The World Part I), but is Harold Ramis the director who can bring it about?
Unless the trailer showcases a horrendous train wreck of a film, Year One could easily put director Ramis back on top – and continue Jack Black’s funnyman streak. Let’s hope so – otherwise we could be in for another abysmal summer of comedy.
