At first glance, it seems like the upcoming horror/comedy Zombieland is nothing more than a obvious rip-off of Shaun Of The Dead (2004). While Shaun Of The Dead (2004) was hilarious, do we really need a duplicate?
Part of the fun of Shaun Of The Dead (2004) was the fresh new faces giving us outstanding performances (particularly Simon Pegg). Zombieland, on the other hand, is giving us Woody Harrelson – you know, the guy whose last comedic roles were almost too painful to watch (Money Train, Kingpin). In fact, they were so unfunny they reminded us of most any of Will Ferrell’s movies – yes, they were that bad. And now they have him back in another comedy role, this one a seemingly complete rip-off? Ugh.
With ex-TV stars Woody Harrelson and Mila Kunis a big part of the cast, the first thought that popped into my head was “made-for-TV”. Thankfully, that thought was banished when I saw a shining light in the cast of Zombieland: Bill Murray. If anyone can interject some much needed comedy (and bring the movie up a notch), it’s him.
That being said, I haven’t even seen a trailer for Zombieland yet, so there’s hope that the movie can redeem itself, and prove it’s more than just a rip-off.
If it can’t, I’d much rather stay home and watch Shaun Of The Dead (2004) again then watch what will most likely be an inferior copy.
